K-3 Mining Process Slides Now Available to Download
A series of 12 slides depicting the mining process is now availble for teachers to download who are teaching the K-3 Integrated Resource Unit: Kids and Rocks. These slides depict the process of miing from the start of removing ore, all the way to fininished products and back to mine reclamation.

Jewel of the Kootenays - A Mining Story at the VPL, Mar. 9
BC author and former miner, Larry Jacobsen, will present the special history of the Emerald Mine near Salmo in southeast BC - through slides and readings from his new book "Jewel of the Kootenays" at the Vancouver Public Library on March 9th, 7:00pm. Mr Jacobson interviewed 91 previous residents who shared their personal stories of life in a small company-owned mining town more than 50 years ago.

Blubber Bay Quarry Celebrates 100 years
 The Blubber Bay limestone quarry on Texada Island, BC has been in continuous operation since 1907 with 2007 marking its 100th year. Mining in BC Poster

The MREPBC has recently developed Industrial Mineral, Metal and Coal Operations in BC , a colour poster (24"x 30") that shows the locations of all major industrial mineral, metal and coal producers in the province. Teachers may request a free copy for their classroom, or download the supplementary teaching materials and student activity sheets related to industrial minerals operations which have also been developed by MREPBC to complement the poster.

George Greenaway Elementary class wins BC Mining Class of the Year 2002!
 The MABC Education Program ran its first BC Mining Class of the Year competition this Spring. Classes from six schools, ranging from Grade 3 to Grade 5/6, responded to the challenge: to create something that comprehensively conveyed the mining process. This year's award went to Divisions 5 and 6 at George Greenaway Elementary in Surrey, and their teachers, Mrs. Heather Hutchinson and Mrs. Patty Kiloh! Congratulations for this fine work! Thank-you to all the classes that participated.
