Hosting a Workshop
Workshops for the five major MREPBC resource units for teachers are 3.5-4 hours
in length. They can be held on a professional development day, during an R.S.A.
or other conference, or after school.
Scheduling
Interested groups are asked to contact the MREPBC to secure a date and time at least 2 months prior to the scheduled workshop to allow adequate time to advertise and complete the workshop registration. (Bookings for Fall workshops
are taken in the Spring: Spring workshops are commonly booked in the Fall.)
Taking Registration
The workshop host is asked to take complete registration (name, school,
grade, address, e-mail) and collect registration fees. This should be completed at least two weeks before the workshop date. The MREPBC will provide a workshop advertisement and registration form, if requested. The workshop host is asked to ensure that registrants are practicing teachers of the grade level intended for
the resource.
Arranging a Venue and AV Needs
The workshop host is asked to secure the workshop location. Rooms must be
large enough to comfortably seat participants at tables so that all can see the front of the
room and have enough space to comfortably handle large binders and a variety of other
materials.
The following AV equipment is required:
- overhead projector and screen (all workshops)
- slide projector (Grade 5)
- TV/VCR or DVD player (K-3, Grade 5, Science of Mining, Social Studies 10/11)
- CD player (K-3 and Grade 5)
Conveniences
There is a short break mid-way through each workshop. The workshop host
may provide food and beverages to participants during this break, if desired. (Please
advise participants if this is not applicable.)
