Our Donors
The MREPBC has been made possible through the charitable contributions of businesses, groups, agencies and individuals committed to a vibrant mineral resources industry. Contributions from major mining companies and mine suppliers have provided the backbone of support for annual operations. Individual contributors, many with membership in the "1000 CLUB" have, on their own, provided up to 25% of the program's annual operating budget. Government grants, primarily from the BC Ministry of Energy Mines and Petroleum Resources (BCMEMPR), make up only 7% of total funds raised to date.
MREPBC is currently raising money for both annual operations ($250,000/year) and to build the MREPBC Endowment Fund to secure the long term future of the school program. The Endowment Fund was established in 2004, seeded with a $100,000 donation from Hunter Dickinson Inc. Since 2007 the Fund has grown substantially thanks to a 5-year matching funds pledge from Teck Resources Ltd. to contribute up to $200,000 annually. Some $6.8 million has been raised since our education-industry partnership program began in 1991, including $2.4 million for the MREPBC Endowment. This support has enabled the MREPBC to directly assist more than 7,600 educators who, over this same period of time, are estimated to have taught minerals, mining and geoscience units in their K-12 classrooms to more than 700,000 students.
