On May 16th we held our annual BC Mining Month Community Fair in Vancouver that was attended by nearly 550 students from Lower Mainland schools. More than 80 industry volunteers staffed the exhibits, demonstrations and hands-on activities, each and every one of them enjoying the opportunity to share with youth what they know about and love. Thank you to the teachers and parent volunteers for venturing out of the classroom for this special learning opportunity.
The BC Mining Month Community Fair is back again this year, only this time it is part of BC Mining Month in May, featuring special mining awareness events in communities all around the province. Our Community Fair will be held again at the Creekside Community Recreation Centre on False Creek in Vancouver.
MineralsEd along with geoscience organizations, mining and exploration companies will come together to present a variety of exhibits, demonstrations and learning activities for students to share information about BC's mineral resources and mining. Learning will center around mineral exploration, BC's mineral resources, the mining process, minerals in everyday life, sustainability and Earth Science education. This is an excellent complement to your classroom units on the rocks and minerals and mining. The Fair runs from 9:30am to 2:00pm.
This event is free. MineralsEd will subsidize class travel costs (up to $250). Space is limited.
